Residential Apartment: A Luxurious Space for Collections

A Unique Design by Hui Ting Wang

Everyone looks at home in different ways. In addition to being a place to live, it is also a personal space to display one's taste and identity. This residential apartment, designed by Hui Ting Wang, showcases a rich collection of red wine, fashionable boutique items, and artwork, creating a living space that treasures every bit of life's memories.

The overall space planning of this residential apartment revolves around an exquisite luxury style, with the collection taking center stage through an open pattern and display function. The public domain exudes a holiday-like atmosphere, complemented by natural materials such as non-decorated surfaces, stone, titanium-plated iron parts, and Soseki Natsume marble, which add to the dignified and grand ambiance. The open and capacious layout allows the collections to be showcased, easily visible at a glance.

The design process involved transforming the original three-bedroom, two-bathroom layout into a one-bedroom, one-living room, and one wine cellar configuration. The vestibule cabinet serves a dual purpose, functioning as a screen and featuring two display sides. One side faces the vestibule, serving as a shoe cabinet and car model display, while the other side facing the living room acts as a fashionable boutique collection cabinet. The combination of three shades of gray on the non-decorated wall surface, stone flooring, and the stone skin of the TV wall creates a harmonious balance, enhanced by the wood grain of the ceiling. The blue-gray sofa and carpet add visual highlights to the space. An art space arranged in the corner adds depth and visual interest, featuring art paintings collected by the owner as wall decorations.

The central bar counter serves as a divider between the living room and the wine cellar space, effectively linking the two areas. Elements such as the column beside the bar counter and the table in the wine cellar feature Soseki Natsume marble, creating a grand atmosphere and a sense of cohesion. The non-decorated wall surface extends from the vestibule to the public and private domains, fostering a calm and stable ambiance for the luxurious theme of the space. This design allows for a dialogue and interaction between the individual, objects, and the space itself.

The project was completed in April 2020 in Taiwan. Extensive research was conducted to ensure that the public domain was open and spacious, allowing the owner to display their boutique collection and artwork. The wine cellar, a distinctive feature of the design, combines modern and fashionable elements with glass and iron pieces, creating a space for wine tasting, art appreciation, and interpersonal interaction. The vestibule features a dual-sided cabinet that serves as a screen, display, and storage unit. The use of non-decorated surfaces, rough TV walls, stainless steel, titanium plating, and metal decorations adds a luxurious texture to the overall design.

The design process was not without its challenges. The TV wall, made of stone skin material, presented difficulties in transportation due to its weight. Ensuring a smooth installation process while maintaining a sense of layering was a significant hurdle. Additionally, incorporating transparent glass in the cellar space while preserving the ideal temperature for storing wine posed another challenge.

This residential apartment design by Hui Ting Wang beautifully showcases the owner's collection, creating a luxurious and personalized space. It received the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award recognizes designs that exhibit outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
